Application Requirements
Applicants to IEOP should be high school graduates and have the necessary preparation to undertake university-level education.  You are also required to submit a complete application form including requested financial support documentation.  Applicants beginning IEOP during the Spring II or S ummer Sessions are required to be enrolled in the next session before taking break from the program unless accepted to ISU.

Application Form
All application materials are filed alphabetically under the family or surname given on the application. You must use the spelling of your name as it appears on your passport.

Applicants outside the United States will usually not have a social security number, so you may leave that item on the application blank.

Application Fee
The nonrefundable application fee is $115, payable to “IEOP” by check or cash.

Academic Records
If your original academic record is difficult to replace, the registrar or principal from the original issuing institution may make a photocopy of your official record and certify that it is a true copy of the original.  This is done by placing the institution’s official stamp or seal and his/her signature on it after photocopying.  Records certified by lecturers, professors, or any other person who does not hold primary responsibility for maintaining the academic records of the institution will not be accepted.  Faxed copies of academic records are not considered official.  English translations do not need to be official, but they must be literal (not interpretive).

Financial Statement
It is important that all questions on the Financial Statement be fully answered and signed by the appropriate people as designated. If insufficient financial information is given, the Certificate of Eligibility for a Student visa (Form 1-20) will not be issued.  The two most common mistakes that applicants and their sponsors make completing this form are:

  1. Listing insufficient funds.  You must show sufficient financial resources to cover all expenses for an academic year.
  2. The number of years the funds will be provided is insufficient.  The university requires assurance that the applicant has sufficient funds for the duration of their degree program.

Indicate the total amount of funds available to you annually under Source of Funds and check the number of years the funds will be available.  Attach the required documentation and have any financial sponsors sign the form at the bottom.

Personal Sources:  Your sponsor should indicate, in U.S. dollars, the amount that will be provided annually and a bank official must certify that the funds indicated are available.  If an individual other than you or your family is providing your financial support, he/she should clearly indicate their relationship to you.

Scholarship: A copy of the scholarship award letter should include (in English) the dollar amount of the scholarship (in U.S. dollars), the number of years it will be provided, the degree for which the support is given, and the subject area that is to be studied.

Dependents: If family members will be accompanying you to the U.S., you must provide for their support. This includes living expenses and family health insurance costs.
