The Pacific Ocean lies between Asia and Australia on the west and North and South America on the east.

It is bordered along the east by the Gulf of California and the Cordillera mountains.

The Western Pacific is bordered by marginal seas.

Of the rivers that drain into the Pacific, the Amur, the Huang Ho, the Hsi, the Pearl, and the Mekong enter indirectly through the marginal seas.
